To whom it may concern i Protours!

We had a wonderful staying in Chile during week 45 in Santiago and Santa Cruz. All - arranged by Protours - and it came out to be just - Best!

Will especially put forward the appointed guide, Folke Bergstrom with his full knowledge about all things in Chile, as well as the eminent driver, who both made our staying there to a great memorable staying in your wonderful and pleasant country - Chile!

Dear Rebecca,
Many thanks for your e-mail. Sorry for the delay in replying but the
build-up in work as a result of my holiday left me with a lot of catching up
to do. So much for the excuses.
Let me begin with your last question first - Did we have any highlights?
Well just three - the Atacama, Patagonia and Easter Island. This is not to
say that we didn't enjoy the Lake District and Chiloe Island, it is just
that they faced unfair competition.
How was our trip? As to the arrangements, everything worked like clockwork
and it is very much to your credit that we had such an enjoyable time. Many
thanks for all your help when we were planning it and for the
professionalism with which you organised it. Protours also deserve credit -
everything we were promised happened and happened on time. When we were to
be picked up - irrespective of how obscene the hour (4.00 am for Tatio at
Dawn, a dull dark, bumpy, drive but to a stunning destination)- the contact
and the vehicle were there, both bright and, the former, eager. We rank it
as one of the best holidays we have had and you will be our first port of
call when we plan our next South American trip (we are contemplating
Argentina and Venezuela - but plan a return to Africa first).
As to the unpacking! Well we did it yesterday(or to be truthful, Mary did
it)! We arrived in Dublin on Monday night, our cases arrived on Friday night
(22.30). Surprisingly, the bottle of Pisco we bought and lovingly padded in
beach towels and 'to-be-laundered' underwear arrived unscathed. We
celebrated this miraculous event with a couple of "Pisco Sours" to reinforce
the very pleasant memories that will live with us for some time.
Other than that, I will have the stimulus of the 1500 photos I took (Mary
was less profligate - she only took 350), the books I bought and the CDs to
which I am now listening to remind me that my decision to go with Last
Frontiers was one of the best holiday decisions I have made, Lovely to hear

Good morning Claudia,
Thank you and your Protours team for all the hard
work you did in preparing and executing a fabulous
adventure in Chile. The guides, Ruby and Camilo, were
some of the best we have ever had. They were professional,
knowledgeable and so much fun to be with. Ask Ruby about
our "dice poker" games. The dinner menus were excellent.
My two favorites were the barbecue at Santa Cruz and the
final pairings at House of Morande. A special "thank you"
for setting up the Mass. The church was perfect. We even
got to meet the church priest. He sang with us at the end
of Mass (He sang in Spanish and we sang in English). The
weather was ideal every day and the scenery in the Lakes
District was so pure and clean. The buses and drivers were
also very good. Our group was especially fond of Luis.

The only suggestion I would make is to try to get Cabanas del Lago
to not allow smoking in the hotel. It was very thick in the bar/lounge
area and a lot of the rooms were also filled with smoke residue. Our
group tolerated this, but other groups would complain bitterly.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip, one that will be filled with
precious memories for years to come. I will forward pictures to you
when
I get them.

unsere Reise nach Patagonien war ein voller Erfolg! Wir haben unglaublich viel Schönes sehen und erleben können, und wir möchten uns für die Organisation ganz herzlich bedanken!

Vielleicht sind einige unserer Erfahrungen für Sie von Interesse.
Der Ablauf der Reise hat gut geklappt. Die Fahrt zum Versteinerten Wald haben wir allerdings gestrichen. Die Entfernung war einfach viel zu weit. Wir hatten zwar den Wunsch geäußert, einen Versteinerten Wald zu besuchen, aber wir hatten an einen anderen in der Nähe von Perito Moreno gedacht. Wir hätten nämlich in 3 Tagen etwa 1500 km fahren müssen! ( Estancia Telken- Puerto Deseado 524 km, Puerto Deseado- Bosques Petrificado ca. 250 km und retour = 500 km, Puerto Deseado - Estancia Telken 524 km ) Es wäre gut für und gewesen, wenn Sie uns auf die Länge der Strecke vorher aufmerksam gemacht hätten.
Das konnten wir so nicht überblicken.
Aber eine nette Mitarbeiterin von Protours hat dann die 2 Nächte für uns umgebucht. So konnten wir diese Schwierigkeit umgehen.
Eine Streckenangabe war für uns nicht nachvollziehbar, als wir nach Estancia La Angostura fahren wollten. Dort heißt es in der Beschreibung. " Die Estancia La Angostura liegt nahe der Ruta 40 in der Region von Gobernador Gregores. Einige Kilometer bevor Sie die Ortschaft Gobernador Gregores erreichen, biegen Sie bei dem Schild Estancia Touristica nach rechts ab zu Ihrer heutigen Unterkunft. Nach 30 km erreichen Sie die Estancia La Angostura."
Diese einigen Kilometer sind genau 74 Kilometer! So sind wir natürlich falsch gefahren, um nach gut 30 km von Einheimischen zu erfahren, dass wir wieder umkehren müssen.
Es muß also heißen: " Bei dem Abzweig nach Gobernador Gregores halten Sie sich gemäß dem Schild Estancia La Angostura rechts und folgen weiter der Ruta 40. Nach 30 km biegen Sie bei dem Schild Estancia Touristica links ab und erreichen nach weiteren 4 km die Estancia La Angostura.
Villeicht noch ein paar Kleinigkeiten.
In El Chaltén kann man Im Restaurant Patagonicus Euros und Dollars tauschen - guter Kurs!
Für unsere Unterkunft Cabanas del Paine brauchten wir uns bei dem Hauptbüro der Parkranger nicht anzumelden, wie es in der Reisebeschreibung angegeben war.
Man braucht nur dem Hinweisschild Hotel Rio Serrano zu folgen über die Brücke und dann rechts.
Man kann in dieser Unterkunft Cabanas del Paine mit Kreditkarte bezahlen. Da wir das nicht wußten, haben wir am Grenzübergang Cerro Castillo in der Cafeteria zu viel Geld zu einem schlechten Kurs getauscht!
In dieser Cafeteria gibt es allerdings sehr gutes Kartenmaterial über Torres del Paine!
Wenn man in Cabanas del Paine die Rechnung per Kreditkarte in Dollars bezahlt, spart man bis zu 20% gegenüber Pesos.
Von den Cabanas del Paine ist jetzt die Südroute nach Puerto Natales fertiggestellt. Sie ist sehr gut zu befahren, und man braucht nicht mehr durch den Park zu fahren. Das spart etwa 2 Stunden Zeit etwa 80 km.

Das Kartenmaterial vom Autovermieter, war übrigens insgesamt nicht ausreichend.

Das sind so einige Anmerkungen, die vielleicht für SIe und andere Gäste interessant sein könnten.

Die Reise war super! Jeder Tag brachte Highlights und wir sind total begeistert. Nochmals ganz herzlichen Dank!
