Day 1: Pto. Montt - Hiking
the Colonist Trail - Petrohué
Your guide will await you at the
airport of Puerto Montt to take you
on a scenic trip along one of the
biggest lakes in South America to
the Vicente Pérez Rosales National
Park. On the way, you will stop
in Puerto Varas, a small and pleasant
city on the shores of the lake
with fantastic views of the volcanoes
Osorno and Calbuco. You
will briefly explore the center and
learn about local architecture
before you drive on to Ensenada.
A few kilometers behind this town
you initiate the ascent to the
Osorno Volcano and the hiking
trail, which was established by the
first colonists who explored this
area in the 1850s. You will go on
an easy hike, first through thick
native rain forest that, after a
while, opens up to lava fields on
the slopes of the Osorno. On a
clear day you will have impressive
views of the Lake Todos Los Santos
and Llanquihue. You will have
time for a picnic lunch and then
slowly descend to arrive at the
road that leads you directly to your
hotel in Petrohué. Dinner and
overnight at Hotel Petrohué. (BL, D)
Day 2: Rafting on the Petrohué
River & Kayaking on
the Lake Todos los Santos
After breakfast you will drive to
the waterfalls of Petrohué, beautifully
set at the foot of the Osorno
Volcano. Take your time to absorb
the impressive natural settings on
a short hike to the falls. After the
rather relaxed walk, get ready for
an adrenaline rush during a
unique whitewater rafting trip on
the Petrohué River. For the next
two hours you will raft the rapids
of this safe but exciting river. Relax
and enjoy a rewarding snack
afterwards before you head back
to your hotel. In the afternoon, you
will walk to Lake Todos los Santos
for a kayak trip along the shores
of this lake. On a clear day you
will have great views of volcanoes
like the Tronador and Puntiagudo;
on the way you will be able to
stop at one of the lonely beaches
to swim. In the early evening you
will return to the hotel for dinner.
Overnight at Hotel Petrohué. (B,

Day 3: Hiking the Osorno
Volcano
After breakfast, you will start
your pleasant hike up the slopes
of the Osorno Volcano (2,661 m
/ 8,730 ft) to a pass between
the volcano and La Picada Peak
(1,710 m / 5,610 ft). On the
first part of your trail you will
cross wide lava fields, after
which the vegetation thickens
until you hike through native Valdivian
rainforest. The flora will
change significantly with every
meter you advance. During the
whole hike you will be able to
enjoy fabulous panoramic views
of Lake Todos los Santos and the
surrounding volcanoes, including
the immense Tronador Volcano
(3,490 m / 11,450 ft).
Upon arrival at the La Picada
Pass, you will be able to rest during
a well-deserved picnic. Here
you will have a gratifying view
of the All Saints Lake and the sur
rounding volcanoes. More than
400 years ago, Jesuits who discovered
the trail and reached
the pass saw the beautiful lake
for the first time on the 1st of
November, which is why they
named it "All Saints Lake". After
your picnic you will start your
descent to the shores of the lake;
pass through the residues of the
volcano's last eruption, a thick
native forest and a huge dried
river bed until you reach the
emerald colored lake. Enjoy a
refreshing swim in the lake
before you head back to your
hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner
and overnight at Hotel Petrohué.

Day 4: Petrohué - Angelmó
- Puerto Montt
After breakfast we will drive to the
city of Puerto Montt to visit the
famous Angelmó Market. It is one
of the most folkloric and interesting
markets in southern Chile,
especially in the morning when
most people go shopping here to
buy fresh fish and other foods.
Your guide will introduce you to
different kinds of exotic fish and
shellfish and then take you to the
airport of Puerto Montt for your
connecting flight. (B)
