Day 1: Puerto Montt /
Puerto Varas - Caleta
Gonzalo
We will depart early in the morning
from Puerto Montt or Puerto
Varas, driving along the coast on
the Carretera Austral to our first
stop - the village Hornopirén, 5
hours from Puerto Montt. Here
we will embark on a typical
Chilean boat, which will take us
on our journey to the northern
part of the Pumalín Park. We will
pass by the hot springs of
Cahuelmo, where we can enjoy
a relaxing soak in one of the
rugged baths, carved into the
rock by the locals. After lunch we
will continue our trip to the Leptepú
Ramp, where our boat trip
ends. From here we will start a 3-
hour walk to the other side of the
Huequi Peninsula. When we
arrive at the Reñihué Fjord,
another boat will take us to Caleta
Gonzalo, our final destination.
Overnight and dinner in
Caleta Gonzalo. (L,D)
Day 2: Caleta Gonzalo
After breakfast we will discover
the surroundings of Caleta Gonzalo
and visit the farms that practice
organic agriculture, unique
to Pumalín Park. After lunch a
trek will take us through impressive
parts of this temperate rain
forest where we will be able to
appreciate wonderful views of
the whole area. We will return to
the cabañas to enjoy a delicious
dinner. Overnight in Caleta Gonzalo.

Day 3: Reñihue Fjord -
Honey Farm and Sea Lions
After breakfast we will take a
fast boat that brings us to the Pillan
Field, a place where most of
the people working with the
Pumalín project live.
|
We will visit
a small factory that produces
honey and then continue navigating
to Reñihue, a small village
where the owner of the
project lives. We will be able to
meet some local people and see
how they live and work. Return
to Caleta Gonzalo in the after-
noon. On the way, we will pass
a colony of sea lions. Dinner and
overnight in Caleta Gonzalo.

Day 4: Caleta Gonzalo -
Chaitén - Puerto Montt /
Puerto Varas
After breakfast we will leave
towards the town of Chaitén.
Our trip will take us on the Carretera
Austral through the southern
part of the Pumalín Park. On
the way we will stop for a short
walk through a beautiful forest of
one of the oldest tree species on
the planet, the Alerce; some
trees are more than a thousand
years of age. Once we arrive in
Chaitén you will either take a
flight or a catamaran back to
Puerto Montt. (B)
