ROBINSON CRUSOE ISLAND
Robinson Crusoe Island has all the ingredients for a real off-the-beaten- track trip. This destination harbors surprises and offers plenty of formidable attractions. The tranquility of the place and the kindness of its people are rarely found anywhere else, and the views from the mountains and the variety of wildlife are spectacular. The Juan Fernandez Archipelago was discovered in 1574 and it became a preferred haven for pirates and buccaneers after crossing Cape Horn or South America's tip at the Strait of Magellan. The islands are at 667 km / 415 mi from Valparaiso, Chile's main port and coastal city, and consist of three islands. Alexander Selkirk, an English seafarer, lived on the islands all by himself for 4 years and 4 months from 1704 to 1708 after stranding; later on, his story inspired Daniel Defoe to write his famous novel "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe." All three islands are filled with exotic and endemic vegetations; both the flora and wildlife are noteworthy. Scientists from all over the world come to Robinson Crusoe to study 38 types of ferns, native trees, the endemic hummingbird, the luma tree, the canelo, the chonta palm tree, the Juan Fernandez fur seal, and the Robinson's lobster offer a wide variety of specimens. The island was declared national park and World Biosphere Reserve in 1977 by the UNESCO.

The Robinson Crusoe Island Hotel opened in 2007 is located on the island of the same name and was designed to put visitors in direct contact with the magnificent environment, in a safe and tranquil place. Flights from Santiago’s Tobalaba Airport take about 2 ½ hours to reach the island. The hotel’s own helicopter service then allows to be transferred in only 6 minutes to the hotel. The restaurant at the hotel offers freshly prepared local and international treats. Exceptional local seafood like the famous Juan Fernandez Lobster, vidriola, golden crab, and breca will be prepared by the experienced chef. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tubs, a state-of-the-art spa area offering a large variety of treatments and therapies, a well equipped library room, a living room with audio-visual equipment, a gym and an entertaining game room. Rooms: The hotel offers a total of 16 nicely and modern decorated rooms and suites. 8 are standard rooms and 8 are superior cabinsuites with Jacuzzis. Activities: A wide variety of activities is offered by the hotel’s own well-trained bilingual guides such as snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, trekking, hiking, horseback riding, sea kayaking and different outings and sightseeing trips to natural and historical sites around the island. The hotels own Spa offers natural therapies with characteristic elements of the island.
