Day 1: Puerto Montt / Puerto Varas - Ancud
Transfer from Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt in a public bus without guide. Bus and ferry ride to Chiloe Island. At the bus terminal in Ancud your local private guide awaits you. You will leave the city of Ancud behind and make your way through a rolling farmland to the rugged Pacific Coast of the island. First you will visit the Punihuíl penguin colony by zodiac to visit the only place in the world where Magellan and Humboldt penguins nest side by side. You will then be taken further along the coast to an even more remote area, from where you can hike through native forest along deserted beaches and past pastoral farms to fully immerse yourself into the natural and cultural charms of Chiloe's rugged coast. In the evening you will return to Ancud and check into a comfortable hostel. Dinner in a restaurant included. Overnight in Ancud. (D)

Day 2: Sea Kayaking
Weather permitting; you can go to the beach of Lechagua, just outside Ancud for a kayak excursion in the Bay of Quetalmahue. The area is not only rich in birdlife but also hosts a variety of shellfish which are regularly collected by local divers. If conditions permit, you can paddle to old Spanish cannon batteries from the 1800s for impressive views of numerous volcanoes across the waters on the mainland. Return to Ancud. Overnight in the same Hostel. The evening will be free to explore the town and eat where you please. (B)

Day 3: Tenaun - East coast
After breakfast you will leave Ancud and drive through the countryside to the picturesque village of Tenaun. It is home to of one of the 16 churches declared UNESCO World Heritage. From the village you will enjoy a gorgeous view of the islands of the archipelago and the snow-capped Andes in the distance. You will go for a long afternoon walk though the countryside, past oxen plowing fields and typical examples of traditional Chilote culture. Return to the village in the evening to enjoy a traditional dish, curanto (seafood & meat cooked over hot rocks), with a local family and spend the night in their oceanside home. This is a superb way to get to know the island of Chiloé and its welcoming inhabitants. Overnight in Tenaun. (B,BL,D)

Day 4: Ancud - Puerto Montt / Puerto Varas
On this final day you will have time for a lovely walk along the beach; where you will see many fishing boats laying on their sides waiting for high tide. After visiting the village's unique church you will have to bid your hosts goodbye. On your way out of town you will stop to take a short walk to a beautiful 40-meter waterfall cascading through the forest. You will arrive in Ancud at approximately 02:00 p.m. for your final lunch on the island. Afterwards you will be driven to the bus terminal from which you will take a regular bus (without guide) to the mainland to Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas. (B,L)
