Day 1: Calama -
San Pedro de Atacama
Arrival at the airport of Calama
and transfer to San Pedro de
Atacama. San Pedro is an unusually
colorful village located at
2.440 m / 8,005 ft above sea
level in the middle of a green
oasis. We will start our 4-hour
hike up into the Salty Mountain
Range to the mysterious Valle de
la Luna, the famous Moon Valley.
At sunset we will climb a sand
dune to watch the light intensify
the impression of a moonscape.
We will then return to the hotel.
Overnight in San Pedro. (L)
Day 2: San Pedro
de Atacama - San Bartolo
After breakfast we will begin our
half day hike past various sites
built by the pre-Incan inhabitants.
We will stop at the archaeological
sites of Quitor - remains
of a fortress dating back to the
XII century - and Catarpe where
the Incan conquerors established
an administration center. Our
hike continues along the beautiful
canyon of the Río Grande to
San Bartolo, where we will set
up our camp and enjoy our
dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 3: San Bartolo -
Río Grande
We will set off for a full day hike
along the San Pedro River to Río
Grande today; on our way we
will pass abandoned copper
mines where the Incas started
exploiting this mineral. Industrial
mining started in the 19th century
but was discarded in 1920.
Finally, we will arrive at the
enchanting pre-Hispanic village
of Río Grande and set up our
camp here. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Río Grande -
Machuca
We will leave the agricultural Río
Grande behind and start hiking
up the Altiplano to the village
Machuca where the ancient llama
caravans used to rest from
their travels on the "Inca Highway".
Nowadays, only few people
live here. We will camp out
and have our dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 5: Machuca - Puritama
- Tatio Geysers
We will leave Machuca in a
vehicle and drive to Purifica to
start our 2 to 3-hour hike to the
Termas de Puritama - hot springs
at an altitude of 3,400 m /
11,155 ft where we will take a
bath and relax. In our vehicle we
will continue onwards to the
Tatio Geysers where we will
overnight in our camp. (B,L,D)
Day 6: Tatio Geysers -
Caspana - Calama
In the early morning we will set
out to visit the Tatio Geysers;
where we will enjoy our breakfast
while watching the geysers.
For our final hike we will walk
approx. 6 hours from Tatio down
to Caspana, a tiny village of
400 inhabitants declared
National Monument in 1951
because of its typical architecture
and its numerous sites of
interest - among them the Iglesia
de San Lucas. Our trip ends with
a transfer to Calama. (B,L)
