TREKKING THE RÍO PUELO VALLEY
(6 days, 5 nights)

world of adventure - trekking the rio puelo valley - chile world of adventure - trekking the rio puelo valley - chile

Day 1: Puerto Montt - Llanada Grande
Upon arrival to Puerto Montt, your guide will welcome you and accompany you on your drive along the Reloncaví Fjord and up into the Andes on dirt roads. We will cross the Lake Tagua Tagua on a ferry and drive on to reach Llanada Grande where we will eat lunch. From here we will start our first hike to our simple lodge, meeting local farmers on the way and stopping briefly to visit a beautiful waterfall. Dinner and overnight at a private house. (BL,D)

Day 2: Llanada Grande - Primer Corral
After breakfast we will pack up and start our half day hike into the Ventisquero Valley. Sometimes we will cross fast-flowing rivers on public wooden rowing boats while our pack horses will swim across. When we arrive in the Ventisquero Valley, we will stop for lunch and relax. We will then hike onwards and arrive at our accommodation in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at a private house. (B, BL, D)

Day 3: Bandurrias Island
On foot we will follow the trails of the local huasos (cowboys) back into the Puelo Valley and to the "la pasarela del río Puelo", an important hanging bridge. It is a crucial connection for the locals to the outside world. Spectacular huge falls and rapids abound in this region. We will have lunch break on our way and at the end of the day we will arrive at the Lake Las Rocas. Here we will board our motorboat to drive to the Bandurrias Island. Dinner and overnight in a cozy cottage on Isla Bandurrias. (B, BL, D)

Day 4: Bandurrias Island - Lago Azul
After our breakfast we will start a round trip to visit the "blue lake" Lago Azul with its radiant color and great wealth of fish.

The motor boat will take us across the Lake Las Rocas, from where we will need about four hours to walk to the Lago Azul, passing through the typical Valdivian rainforest with its ancient Alerce trees as well as other gigantic trees such as Coihue and Arrayanes. Lunch box en route. On our way back we will hike for another hour and pass a small lagoon before another boat takes us across Lake Las Rocas again. Dinner and overnight at our cottage. (B, BL, D)

Day 5: Bandurrias Island at leisure
We will have a day to enjoy this peaceful place. You can take a swim in the lake, walk or row around the island or just relax with a good book. Dinner and overnight at our cottage. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Bandurrias Island - Bariloche (Argentina)
Today we will cross the border and Andes into Argentina to return to "civilization". After a 4- hour walk along Lake Las Rocas we will arrive at the village of Segundo Corral and the "Lago Inferior". At a small natural harbor a jet boat will await us and take us across the lake and up the river through small rapids, the natural border between Chile and Argentina. We will arrive at Lago Puelo National Park from where a vehicle takes us via El Bolsón to Bariloche. (B, BL)

Please Note: We can organize this itinerary with Puerto Montt as the final destination on Day 6. We can also organize an almost identical itinerary as a horseback riding trip (for riders and non-riders).
